Goal 7
New Yorkers will continue to embrace Vision Zero and accept no traffic fatalities on New York City streets.
Vision Zero
In January 2014, the City of New York launched Vision Zero: a bold commitment to improve street safety in every neighborhood.
Challenges & Opportunities
Traffic fatalities in the city have fallen to an all-time low; and yet, nearly 4,000 New Yorkers are still seriously injured and more than 250 killed in traffic crashes each year. Vulnerable populations, like children and seniors, are the most affected.
Initiatives
Vision Zero contains a robust set of initiatives to give New York City control over the safety of our streets. From expanded enforcement against dangerous moving violations, new street designs, and public awareness to speed cameras in school zones, upgrades to City fleet vehicles, and reengineered intersections, we will use every tool available to reduce the number of traffic fatalities to zero.
